BT has just announced its acquisition of Counterpane Internet Security, which will be integrated into the telecom giant’s Global Services portfolio.

Although financial details of the deal were not released, some report say that BT spend over $20 million on the privately held Silicon Valley company.

“Counterpane is a welcome addition to BT’s global professional services community,” said BT’s CEO of Global Services CEO, Andy Green, in a statement. “As more and more of our customers seek to exploit the opportunities of globalization, we are finding that increasingly business critical applications are dependent upon the resilience and security of their infrastructure.”

Counterpane’s founder, Bruce Schneier, has agreed to stay on as the company’s Chief Technology Officer, using his skills to help develop future services.
